WALKERS from across Torfaen put their best feet forward to help raise awareness for a Welsh kidney charity.

The Walk for Life is one of Kidney Wales’ longest running events and is key to raising vital funds for the charity, with event taking place all over Wales on Sunday, April 23.

“It was a wonderful day for us – the sun shone as we walked from the canal basin to the Star Inn and back,” said Mrs Woolfall, who organised the six mile walk.

“I have been fundraising for the charity for the past six or seven years as my husband Andrew is on the list waiting for a transplant after his previous one has failed.”

A charity spokeswoman said: “Kidney disease affects over 10,000 people in Wales, and is evident to be increasing particularly in young children.

“It is a lifelong and life-threatening illness which dramatically changes the life of the patient and their families.

“Living with the condition can involve lengthy dialysis sessions, sometimes 10 hours a day every day, and then there’s the lengthy wait for a kidney transplant.”

Around 80 walkers joined in with the event in Torfaen.
