AN EVENT set up to bring young women together and highlight various issues in society brought in the crowds at Newport’s Riverfront yesterday. (FRI)
Every 30 seconds was set up by a group called the Go Girls - a group of vulnerable women and teenagers aged 15 to 25 girls who are housing tenants or from local youth organisations - who are supported by Charter Housing and Bron Afon.
The group meet up once a fortnight with a Charter Housing or Bron Afon worker and speak about topics and themes such as safer relationships, health and wellbeing and women’s equality.
The event at The Riverfront included a live forum theatre piece highlighting the issues of child sexual exploitation, modern day slavery and human trafficking.
Abigail Clifford, the young people and family support officer at Bron Afon Housing, said: “We have held the event to mark the International Day of the Girl.
“Go Girls enables girls to go on courses and reduce isolation, they get to learn more.”
