TEAMS of cyclists are currently competing in a 24-hour charity bike ride event at the Wales National Velodrome in Newport.

Cyclone24 started at 12pm on Sunday, October 22 and is due to finish at the same time on Monday, October 23 with teams of six cycling non-stop for a whole day.

Only one member of each of the participating teams can be on the track at any given time and riders are not allowed to cycle consecutively for more than one hour.

The event started in 2015 and takes place at tracks in Derby, London and Manchester, with Newport offering Wales’s only Cyclone24 non-stop cycling test of endurance.

As well as a test of the physical attributes, it is designed to challenge team spirit and determination and it is free for spectators to attend.

Teams are allowed to pick a charity of their choice and in the past two years since the event was created, it has raised more than £75,00 for a number of organisations.

The 2017 event in Newport sold out and organisers are already registering interest for the event in 2018.
