NEW parking rules at a row of shops in Newport have left unaware drivers seething - after some were hit by fines as high as £100.

Visitors to Malpas Road shops say they had no idea Richard Morgan & Co Ltd, which manages the site, had employed New Generation Parking Management Limited (NGPM) to enforce new restriction.

Until they were slapped with hefty penalties.

A spokesman from Richard Morgan & Company Ltd said: “We instructed NGPM back in June as over the past year we have had numerous problems with parking there.

“These include a number of accidents and near misses due to inconsiderate motorists parking in the roadways of the site.”

Here is what you had to say about it on our website.

The land owners has obviously had complaints. Assessed the parking and decided those who do not use the bays are causing an issue. As landowners they have a responsibility to the safety of those using the land in whatever capacity.

As they don’t have any powers to issue tickets they’ve employed a company that do.....it’s not difficult; the signage is clearly visible and easy to understand. Simples!

I drive a 12 tonne truck and park opposite the parking bays, been doing this for years with zero issues caused - plenty of space to drive past and reverse out of the bays.

Its not just me either, Greggs and Tescos do a tidy trade with delivery drivers, shame we cant park in there or anywhere around there no.

Only selfish lazy people will get the fines and maybe then will learn some common decency.

I have parked outside Tesco on a Saturday morning with plenty of clear bays and still come out to find some numbnut has parked behind you.

That’s just the excuse for more idiots to park in the bus stop and block that up so that people have to struggle to get on and off a bus.

I’m in two minds about this. I do think the fines are very extreme and users of the carpark should have lines on the road to show that parking isn’t allowed but I find this car park horrendous, I have previously nearly been run over by a woman reversing her car and not looking!

Sometimes there is no space at all there (including the illegal spaces) and I have ended up driving to Sainsburys to do my shopping. Yes, something needs to be done but I don’t think it should be so heavy handed.

The perfect way to drive local shoppers away, no wonder Cwmbran is doing so well.

I stop off there regularly, not anymore. I would guess I’m not the only one.

Steady_Now

I used to use those shops daily but since the fines kicked in I don’t bother. I shop elsewhere.

Pay up and shut up!

There are deliveries to the shops there by trucks. When the drivers attempt to get out, they find people have just dumped their cars willy nilly making it impossible for them to get out.

About time selfish lazy people were educated by way of fines. Park in a bay and you will save £35. If you can’t read the signs hand in your licence.

For those of you that think people should park in designated bays and stop basically moaning. This company is spouting safety at us as customers.

Where are the parent & children bays?, where are the disabled bays? That’s right! Not in sight! They want to follow the rules that earn them money not the rules that matter in the eyes of the law.

no cheese

I’m not a fan of extortionate parking fines but people have parked like dicks across the top of the road between Tesco and the bus stop, inconsiderately blocking or causing obstruction for anyone parked in the marked bays, for as long as I can remember.

The disabled bays are at the end, normally full of delivery drivers.

Can’t see the issue. Park in the bays rather than cause a hazard. About time something was done.

Boycott the shops, they’ll soon sort the problem out

While this does seem a bit heavy-handed, there are too many people who are just content to park by the walkway (even if there are marked bays available) simply because they are too lazy to walk an extra few yards to Tesco or wherever.

This makes it difficult and possibly dangerous for those who have parked correctly to reverse out.

Of course, this problem isn’t confined to this row of stores. It’s just another example of a wider society where people are lazy, selfish and inconsiderate.

Hopefully a few parking fines will teach them that walking a few extra yards won’t hurt them.
