NEWPORT COUNTY AFC have ensured that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The club made its pledge as part of a Remembrance ceremony which took place at Rodney Parade during last week's match against Port Vale.

It joins hundreds of businesses, charities and local authorities in Newport and across the country who have already signed up.

A club statement read: “We are delighted to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. We have worked closely with the SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and the Armed Forces to get this done.

"It’s particularly poignant that we have signed this so close to Remembrance Day and we were proud to sign the Covenant as part of our Remembrance Day ceremony at our home match on November 10."

Stuart Clark, director of SSAFA, added: "It’s been two years of hard work and it’s great to see Newport County come on board to support the armed forces and the veterans with the signing today. There are a lot of businesses coming on board now and it’s great to see Newport County totally encompassing the community."
