A CAT has been reunited with her owners by RSPCA Cymru, two years after going missing.

RSPCA Cymru were contacted after the black cat was found in a box near Intermediate Road, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, near Brynmawr Comprehensive School on Monday.

She was collected by RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Stephanie Davidson and taken to RSPCA Merthyr Tydfil Clinic where she was given a vet check and scanned for a microchip.

To their surprise the four year old cat, named Molly, was microchipped and registered to a family in Aberdare.

They also found that Molly had been missing for two years.

ACO Davidson said: “It’s a bit of a mystery what Molly has been up to over the past two years, but she ended up in a box in Ebbw Vale.”

“It appears she had been sadly abandoned. Maybe she had strayed and had been looked after by someone who no longer could care for her. But we are delighted that there is a happy ending and she has been returned with her owners.”

Molly’s owner Mark Evans said he was delighted to have her home, and with the efforts of RSPCA Cymru.

He said: “I was so surprised to get the call. She had disappeared one weekend in September 2015 and we just didn’t know what happened to her.”

“We'd had her for 10 months before, and we did worry about her even for a long time after. I would often think about her from time to time. It is a big relief she is okay and I hope she can now settle back in with us.”

The RSPCA would like to remind people to get their pets microchipped to give their lost pets the chance of returning home, as in this case it proved to be very lucky for Molly.

It is also important to register the chip with a national database and update your contact details if you move or change phone number. More information can be found at www.rspca.org.uk/allaboutanimals/pets/general/microchipping
