A WEEKEND of arts is coming to Newport this weekend.

More than 20 venues and 50 artists will be involved in Arts on the Hill, which will run from Friday to Sunday and will aim to show art in a variety of different venues.

Artist Sarah Goodey, who is the main force behind the event together with Kate Mercer, said: “Art on the Hill Newport is a weekend of art and creativity on the west side of Newport featuring open houses, events and exhibitions.

“We hope that residents of and visitors will engage with local artists, partner venues and organisations in an opportunity to showcase their artwork, activities and programmes.”

Here are some of the highlights of this event:

- Creative Writers. Friday, November 24, from 7.30pm in Cwtsh, Stow Hill. Cwtsh Creative Writers invite you to come along and hear their stories and poems, for example. £3 entry, drinks available.

- Word of Mouth. Saturday, November 25, from 7.30pm at Rogue Fox coffee house, in Clytha Park Road. Word of Mouth is an open spoken word night that seeks to celebrate words in all their varieties. Four headline artists are followed by an hour of open mic.

- Sketch Party. Saturday, November 25, from 7pm at Le Pub, in High Street. They will have art materials all over the pub and artists on hand to help. Come in, sit down, grab a pen and Draw Something. Free Entry

- NP20: Sounds, Tunes & Images Red Zip / Steven George Jones. Saturday, November 25, from 2.15pm at St Woolos Cathedral, in Stow Hill. Enjoy an hour of ambient improvised sound, tunes and images in the cathedral.

- Opening of Cwtsh winter exhibition. Sunday, November 26, from 3pm at Cwtsh, in Stow Hill. The Cwtsh Winter Exhibition is a display of artwork bringing together a huge range of talent, both local and from as far afield as Belgium and the Netherlands.
