SECRETARY of State for Wales Alun Cairns has said the government's new Industrial Strategy will help boost economic growth in Newport.

The MP visited Airbus Group in Newport yesterday to launch the UK government's Industrial strategy white paper in Wales.

The plan, which aims to boost productivity and economic growth, will increase national research and development spending.

Speaking after launching the strategy, Mr Cairns said: "The strategy is about developing the strongest possible economic areas of excellence that exist.

"This will now create a corridor of growth between Bristol, Newport and Cardiff.

"Newport is ideally placed between Bristol and Cardiff where you have a strong digital cluster and a strong digital presence between the two.

"On the back of that, Newport is ideally set again because of the removal of the Severn tolls."

The industrial strategy is designed to boost cross border growth and a range of industries in Wales.
