CALDICOT enjoyed its “biggest Christmas market” in recent years, according to organisers of the event over the weekend.

Hundreds of people visited the 32 trader stalls on Saturday, with many said to be first-time visitors to Caldicot.

Youngsters also had the chance to visit Santa in his grotto or have a ride on two festive donkeys, which organiser Aaron Reeks said “went down a “storm”.

“It was the biggest market we’ve done in recent years,” he said.

“What was refreshing was that there wasn’t many people that we knew which is really good as obviously we’ve hit a different target market.

“We hope that will lead to an increase in trade in the town centre and more visitors on a regular basis.

The market also enjoyed music from the Severn Tunnel brass band and festive food in the form of mulled wine and Christmas rolls.

Mr Reeks, one of the Caldicot Town Team directors, said the gift stalls did particular well on the day.

He added: “We had some traders that had never been to Caldicot before and we got good feedback from the businesses in the town centre, which was fantastic.

“We definitely made a profit , and all of that money will be going into next year’s budgets for our markets.”
