GWENT Police are asking the public to tell them about motorists that drink or drug drive by using a new text service.
The service has been launched as part of the All Wales anti-drink and drug driving campaign.
People who suspect that someone is driving while under the influence of drugs or drink can text a number, which will be charged at the users' normal rate, with details of the car and driver.
People caught can face a minimum 12 to 18 month driving ban.
Operational support chief inspector, Martyn Smith said: “We are committed to making the roads in Wales safer and year on year we raise awareness of the dangers of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs through campaigns such as this one."
He added: The Christmas festivities and New Year are a time for enjoyment, and whilst I would encourage everyone to have a good time, it is important to reiterate, if you drink, don’t drive and if you drive, don’t drink – it’s that simple.
“It is also important to remember that if you have a drink in the evening you can still be over the limit the following morning, we will be conducting roadside breath tests 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“If you have any information relating to someone who may be driving after drinking or taking drugs please let us know by texting us, or report it to 101. In an emergency always call 999.”
