THE public inquiry into the proposed £1.1 billion M4 relief road around Newport has resumed today.

The inquiry, which was expected to end in July, will return to the Lysaght Institute in the city for its 21st week.

The Welsh Government, which is seeking to build a new six-lane motorway between Magor and Castleton, is expected to submit its closing statements.

The inquiry will hear updated submissions from prominent objectors to the scheme, including Associated British Ports (ABP) and Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

A review of all agricultural objections will also be heard.

An update on traffic predictions on the M4 post-Severn Crossings toll removal will also be given.

A total of 12 items are listed for discussion between Tuesday and Friday, with an extra session listed for Tuesday December 12 if it needs to be extended.
