FORMER Welsh Government minister Carl Sargeant, who died last month, raised concerns around bullying in Carwyn Jones' cabinet three years ago, an AM has claimed.

Allegations around bullying within the Welsh Government cabinet arose following Mr Sargeant’s death.

And, speaking in the Senedd earlier today, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said Mr Sargeant had asked him to raise questions around alleged bullying in 2014.

"Carl told me that he was unhappy, because there was bullying going on within the Welsh Government, which was coming from an individual in the first minister’s office and that this was taking a toll on him personally along with others," he said.

The Conservative AM said he had raised the issue in the Senedd in November 2014, when Carwyn Jones said no concerns over bullying had been raised.

"(Mr Sargeant's) only motivation in disclosing the problems within the Welsh Government to me and requesting my support in this way was to attempt to resolve the frustration and stress of the ongoing situation at that time for him and his colleagues in the Welsh Government," he said.

"It was out of his loyalty to the government and the party that he loved that he wanted the issues to be addressed."

Mr Sargeant was found dead at his north Wales home just days after he was fired from the Welsh Government cabinet and suspended from the Labour Party following allegations of misconduct around women.

His cause of death was provisionally recorded as hanging.

An investigation into the bullying allegations has been launched.
