HARLEY Davidsons, Morgans, Rileys and a Robin Reliant, were among the vehicles which took to the roads yesterday for the St David's Foundation 'Road Trip.'

A total of 107 vehicles set off from Bassaleg Comprehensive School at around 10.30am for a 73-mile round trip taking in the sights of Gwent, stopping off at the castles in Abergavenny, Raglan, Caldicot and Chepstow.

The convoy finished back at the school, where the vehicles were all on display and participants were treated to a barbecue and refreshments.

For those not driving, Newport Transport helped raise funds by providing tours of Newport’s best-loved landmarks in their open-topped tour bus.

Vehicles taking part included a yellow Robin Reliant decked out as Del Boy’s van from Only Fools and Horses, two Morgan plus fours, as well as modern BMWs and Audis.

Emma Saysell, St Davids chief executive, said: “It’s was just brilliant. We started off with bacon rolls for breakfast and then the Only Fools and Horses led the convoy. It looked fantastic. We’re hoping to make it an annual event. We’d like to thank Bassaleg School for letting us use the grounds.”

Alan Padbury, who took part in the event with his 1950s Riley, said: “It was good fun and it’s all for a good cause. It was a lovely morning, but a bit cold when the sun went in. We’ll definitely take part again next year.”

It is hoped the event will raise more than £1,000 for the charity.

The Argus-backed charity is holding a series of events to mark its 30th anniversary this year.
