TWO Pontypool women are holding a charity fun day to raise funds for causes close to their hearts.

Frances Johnson, of New Inn, and Christine Ward, of Tranch, will hold the event on May 21 to raise money for the Llandough Hospital and charity Millie’s Fund.

Mrs Johnson’s son Joe died in July 2006, aged 19, from cystic fibrosis and was cared for at the hospital for around a year.

Mrs Ward set up Millie’s Fund to raise money for her nineyear- old granddaughter Millie Ormsby, of Birmingham, who was diagnosed with Ataxia in February last year.

The genetic disorder causes problems with movement, balance and speech and has led to Millie undergoing treatment including having metal rods inserted in her curved spine.

Mrs Ward and her family have since raised more than £5,000 for Ataxia UK, which helps people like Millie and the family also raise cash for Millie’s Fund, which allows the youngster to enjoy trips and holidays, as well as buying her much-needed equipment.

The fun day will be held at 1st Panteg Scouts Hut, New Inn, from 12pm until 4pm.

Events will include a jumble sale, tombola, children’s activities and refreshments.
