A SERIES of workshops are putting Newport on the hip hop map.
Youngsters have been busting some moves with industry bigwigs during Newport Council’s summer fun programme at Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.
In return leading streetdancer Timothy ‘Li’l Tim’ Hamilton and choreographer Monica ‘Chocolate Blonde’ Dhinn – whose CV includes names like Kylie, Robbie Williams and the Arctic Monkeys – have also been showcasing their skills.
Education and participation officer Danielle Rowlands welcomed them during Criw Cymru’s first visit to Newport.
The Arts Council of Wales scheme has been running hip hop workshops across Wales to promote health and build selfesteem since 2009.
Those who take part also have the chance to join an all-Wales crew one week a year in Cardiff and put a show together.
Ms Rowlands said: “It’s a great exchange for our tutors to meet up with some really excellent names and also for our young people to have the inspiration too.”
“It’s also building upon the arts that are interesting to young people in Newport,” she added.
