A TRAINEE teacher from New Inn is putting her best foot forward to raise money in memory of her brother.

Janine Johnson, 26, is running the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 16 with her cousin Kate Evans, 28, from Sebastopol.

The cousins will be raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust after Miss Johnson’s 19-year-old brother Joe Johnson died in 2003 after suffering from the disease.

Miss Johnson, who is studying in London to become a teacher, said she is not a runner and that it was be a big physical challenge.

“It’s totally something out of the ordinary for both of us,” she said.

Miss Johnson has been running several miles on a Sunday followed by smaller runs of two or three miles in the week.

She said: “I’m quite enjoying it but its been tough. If at any point I feel like I can’t do any more then knowing I’m doing it for a good reason will get me through.”

The cousins would like to raise £1,000 for the charity and have so far received £400 worth of donations from family and friends.
