Off-road vehicles targeted in Gwent clampdown

POLICE targeted fly-tipping, the illegal use of off-road vehicles and vehicle and scrap metal theft during an operation in Gwent on Sunday.

Gwent Police and local councils covered a large area of countryside from Brynmawr down to Abertillery and Cwmtillery over into Monmouthshire and down to Blaenavon and Pontypool.

Six section 59 warnings were given out, which means that if any of the people warned are found to be riding or driving illegally again in the next 12 months then their vehicle will be seized. Police also issued 42 verbal warnings and gave out educational leaflets, and found 24 new fly-tipping sites which they referred for clean-up operations.

PC Rob Maddocks, who organised the operation, said: “Many members of the public don’t fully understand the law in relation to off-road vehicles.

The operation on Sunday was to educate members of public about the law and give them a chance to change their actions.
