Monmouthshire council end recycling and composting contract

First published in Gwent news

MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council said this afternoon they have ended its contract with Wormtech, the company that handles its green waste recycling and composting.

This follows a number of concerns about the service provided and the recent decision of the Environment Agency to suspend their operations at their operation site in Caerwent.

They say they Viridor will continue to run their recycling in the interim until a new contactor is appointed. They said there is no time scale for this process.

This is a very important decision. Our services are not being handled at all well by the private sector. The waste is now being taken miles away substantially increasing cost as well as Carbon emissions.

Anyone using the Caerwent 'Civic Amenity' site has my deepest sympathy you feel like a criminal as soon as you drive onto the site - no wonder fly-tippings on the increase. I miss our public service!

Thats the problem with private company's taking over the running of Public Services, profits first, shareholders dividends second and executive pay third........service last.

I think all those who are happily supporting this Tory Governments attacks on the Public Sector should be careful of what they wish for.
