THERE are only days left to send in nominations for the South Wales Argus’ Gwent Schools Awards.

Teachers will be celebrated when the awards winners are announced at a special evening on March 10 at the Coldra Court Hotel. If you know a teacher, tutor or lecturer that deserves to be recognised for their hard work then entries must be submitted by January 13.

You can submit nominations in a range of categories including ‘Student Teacher of the Year’ and ‘FE Lecturer of the Year’. Teachers that work to open doors for students whatever their background, ethnicity or circumstances could be eligible for the South Wales Argus’ ‘Breaking Down Barriers Award’. Inspirational secondary school teachers and secondary schools can also be nominated in our award categories.

If you know any teachers who have spent their lives educating and motivating generations of children then they should be nominated for a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.

Argus editor Nicole Garnon said: “We are delighted to be running these awards. I’m looking forward to seeing who our readers think worthy of an award.”

The annual awards have been established in partnership with the University of South Wales (USW). Head of school of education, early years and social work at USW, Jamie James said: “What happens in the classroom quite literally transforms lives.”

“We’re playing our part by bringing our teacher training together in our Newport campus with early years, social work, therapies, and the related professional disciplines that teachers work with in the real world.

“It’s thriving, and by partnering with schools and councils to give our teachers the best facilities and professional opportunities. We’re working across Gwent to drive up standards. The Argus’ Gwent School Awards initiative celebrates the best, and we’re proud to be part of it.”

There are 13 award categories available and nominations can be made for free at southwalesargus.co.uk/gwentschoolsawards.
