Usk businessman and property developer John Badland was delighted that the annual Grand Draw which he sponsors for St. Anne’s Hospice raised more than £24,000 this year. It is one of the Hospice’s biggest fund-raising events and has been sponsored by Mr. Badland for the last four years, raising a total of £81,000. All of this money goes towards the annual costs of £1.2 million which are needed just to keep the hospice going.

Supporters and friends of the Hospice gathered in the grounds for the draw to take place, and were entertained by members of the Office of National Statistics choir before watching Mr. Badland draw the winning tickets.

This year’s winners of the first prize, who can choose between a car or £5,000, were Mr. & Mrs. Trevor Jones of Rassau, Beaufort. Second prize of £500 went to Francis Doherty of Caerphilly, third prize of £250 went to Diane Bird from Cwm, fourth prize of £125 went to Mr. & Mrs. Court from Redbrook, and the fifth prize of £100 was won by Mrs. Kew from Rogerstone.
