The Rotary Club of Chepstow is looking for a young person to take part in an all expenses paid leadership course during summer 2009.

He or she will spend six days between July 28 and August 2 at the Dean Field Studies Centre with 39 other like-minded young adults on an intense, but rewarding leadership course run by Rotary.

The young adults, aged between 16 and 18 years, will enjoy a series of outdoor practical exercises supported by theory and classroom discussion. The course will provide individuals with the opportunity to improve their leadership skills, develop their communication skills and self-confidence.

Although the participants work together in teams of eight or ten, they will each receive feedback to monitor their personal objectives and achievements.

Set in the heart of the Forest of Dean, the Dean Field Studies Centre is in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The centre provides comfortable accommodation and the chance for the RYLA participants to take part in outdoor activities including a ropes course, canoeing, climbing, caving, abseiling and orienteering.

Now in its fifth year, the Rotary Young Leadership Award (RYLA) course has proved to be a valuable and rewarding experience for all who have participated. The ‘RYLA Certificate’, which is awarded at the end of the course, is worthy of inclusion in a ‘CV’ and is recognised by colleges and universities. There is also an opportunity to take part in an overseas International RYLA course with up to 200 participants from all over the world.

The representative will be chosen following applications to the Rotary Club. Successful applicants will then be invited to an interview, which will be held later this year.  Further information and application details for this exciting opportunity can be obtained by contacting David Burr on 01291 627886 or chepstow.rotary@zen.co.uk
