Phillip's doing well
Chepstow basketball player, Philip Cochrane, has beaten over 150 other children to bring home the “Most Improved Player” award from the Lord’s Taverners Junior Wheelchair Basketball Regional Championships this year, writes Jane Elson.
Philip represented Wales as part of a seven strong squad who travelled to Stoke Mandeville to take part in the annual event, which saw 18 Regional teams competing.
The squad faced some strong competition from experienced teams over a gruelling but enjoyable two days of competition.
Despite some very early starts, including a game at 8.20am, the team played very well and learned a lot from the experience. They even managed a few wins along the way and were all very proud of Philip for bringing a trophy back for Wales.
Joanna Coates, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Sport Cardiff said, “This is a great achievement for Phil, and the Celts. The club has been working very hard recently to increase the number of junior members attending their training sessions and they hope to enter a team in the National Junior League next year”.
