A highlight of the NGS Open Gardens' Day at Perth-y-Crwn in Cwmyoy was the presentation of a Voluntary Achievement Award to the local Garden Club. The award was presented by Margaret Underwood on behalf of GAVO, the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations. The award was a much deserved recognition of the efforts of the highly successful community group that is the Llanthony and District Garden Club.
The Club members' enthusiasm was also reflected in the Open Day itself with two open gardens in Llanvihangel Crucorney - Mione, home of Yvonne and John O'Neil and Mynydd Ardrem, home of Linda and Geoff Walsh- in addition to Jim Keates' home at Perth-y-Crwn. There were many visitors and an impressive total of £742.50 was raised, 75% of which will go to the National Gardens Scheme.
