This was a family service which was run by Reader Jo Field and his wife Chris Field. At these family services, held on the first Sunday of the month at 9.15am, any children present are involved as much as possible. On Sunday March 2 it was Mothering Sunday and there was a large tray of brightly coloured primulas, waiting until that point in the service when all the children and young people were invited up to choose a plant and give it to their mother if she was in church. I was very touched when my young neighbour Rachael, a member of the bell-ringing band and a PCC member, chose a lovely orange/red primula and gave it to me with a kiss. The family service is usually quite short and afterwards there is tea or coffee or squash and a biscuit at the back of the church.
