Undaunted by the uncertain weather so far this summer, the gardeners of Usk are getting ready to open their gates for the 14th year, to show their beautiful gardens to around 2,000 visitors.

As in previous years, the whole town will have a festival atmosphere, with stalls, music, a plant market and lots of places to stop for refreshments. With Usk in Bloom providing the wonderful formal displays in the town, it's the place to be whatever the weather.

More than 20 gardens will be open on Saturday June 28 and Sunday June 29, from 10am to 5pm, ranging from picturesque cottage gardens, to the grandeur of Usk Castle gardens. Admission is £6 per person for one day, or £9 for both, with children up to 14 years admitted free. There is plenty of free parking available and regular mini-buses to take visitors t o the more outlying gardens.

Organiser Margaret Evans said, "One of the features which keeps people coming back year after year is the wonderful community atmosphere which they savour throughout the week-end and makes them feel so welcome."

All the money raised goes to local good causes and charities, with the total so far exceeding £110,00. More details and pictures of some of the gardens can be found at www.usktc.f9.co.uk
