COMMUNITIES FIRST: This month, volunteers from the various Communities First groups were invited to the Mansion House by the mayor and mayoress of Newport.
Volunteers from the Gaer were delighted to be invited, we thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and especially the delicious buffet.
The mayor and mayoress are the most hospitable couple.
They have the knack of making everyone seem special so that from the opening welcome, together with a very short speech by the mayor to the final tour of the house by the mayoress, the evening was a delight and I am certain that everyone present will join me in saying thank you for a wonderful evening.
COMMUNITY CENTRE: The Gaer Community Centre is getting very technical lately. Jane Wheal, the centre manager, tells me that the centre at the Gaer and at Maesglas will be hosting digital photography tasters during the next few weeks.
The tasters will be for a two-week period. The course will cover such subjects as how to get your photographs downloaded on to your computer. I expect that there must be many people who have been given a digital camera for Christmas, and these taster courses should be an excellent way to learn how to do the job.
The Gaer tasters will be running on Wednesday, January 31 and February 7, at 10am to noon. Then Tuesday, February 6 and 13 at 6pm to 9pm.
The Maesglas tasters will run on Tuesday, January 30, and February 6, at 1pm to 3pm. The Gaer Community Centre can be contacted on 01633 784068. The Maesglas office is on 01633 817615.
