CYCLE RACE: The R.I.S Junior Tour of Wales cycle race takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend August 25-27, and comprises of five stages of fast and furious road racing over just three days.

The event is open to any rider aged between 16 and 18 and female riders of any age.

The race headquarters for Saturday and Monday is at Nantyglo Leisure Centre, in Blaenau Gwent, and is sponsored by the local County Borough Council. On Sunday, the HQ will be at Bryn Bach Park and the Prince of Wales Inn.

The race travels through the counties of Gwent, Dyfed and Powys - through the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons.

Traditionally, the race starts with a prologue time trial, with three road race stages and a circuit race. The final stage takes in the breathtaking climb of Tumble Mountain - a 5-mile climb of a 10 gradient.

Previous races have attracted riders from Holland, France, Eire and America, with past winners going on to ride for top Continental teams and win the British Road Race.

Entries are always welcomed. This year the event welcomes a new main sponsor, R.I.S. Roof Insulation Services.

The race still has competitions within the overall race, eg: King of the Mountains, Points Jersey, team etc, that are available to other sponsors.

If you go down to Cardiff, pop into the Bay Art Gallery and the Green Gym Community Canvas forms part of a very bright and creative display of art, depicting many of Cardiff's buildings. Well worth a visit if you are down in Cardiff.

ART PROJECT: Throughout August an exciting art project will be taking place at various venues in Six Bells, in conjunction with Communities First, Linc Cymru and Pippins Art.

The completed artwork will be displayed in the second subway Alexander Terrace, which leads to the doctors surgery.

SUMMER CLUB: Based in Penniel Church, Tillery Street, the club runs from August 6-10, from 10am-noon. It is open to children aged 4 years and over and costs 50p per session, including squash and biscuits.

There will be lots of fun with crafts, games and much, much more.

SIX BELLS WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION: The association goes from strength to strength and is organising two summer trips this year. The first is to Weston-super-Mare, on August 11, and cost £4 for adults and £3 for children.

The second is to West Midlands Safari Park on August 25 and costs £5 for adults and £3 for children. The trip will include: * Drive through safari * Safari express train * Hippo lakes * Sea lion show and encounter * Sea island exhibit pool * Twilight cave * Creepy crawlies * SeaQuarium * Reptile house and encounter * Animal encounter The trips are on a strictly first come first served' basis. SIX BELLS FETE: Six Bells Tenants and Residents Fete will be held on Saturday, August 18. Events at this year's fete will include a welly throwing competition with cash prizes of £25, £15 and £10 for both male and female winners.

Blaenau Gwent Council's active living team will also be on hand to offer Bleep tests.

There will be two tests, the first at 1pm and the second at 2pm. There will be prizes for the top three male and female results.

Health Checks will also be carried out, such as body fat, blood pressure, lung function tests and information will also be available on nutrition and active living.

Circuit training taster sessions will also be held every hour at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, so, come along, and not only enjoy a family day out but get fit and health in the process.

We will have a large number of stalls offering a variety of attractions, including face painting and a bouncy castle.
