Newport independent sports retailer Nick Macey, who has a sports and school outfitters shop on Caerleon Road, Maindee, is helping to publicise the inaugural Newport Half Marathon event.
He said: “I’m very much in favour of the half marathon event as it will bring extra people in to the city which in itself will promote Newport and the surrounding area. If people are travelling to the city they may well have to stay overnight and eat here which is another bonus for the city.
“Any events such as this which help put Newport on the map can only be a good thing.”
The City of Newport Half Marathon, which is the first to be staged by St David’s Hospice Care on March 3, has attracted more than the 1,000 entries.
The charity plans for the event to be an annual event.
