BUDDING artists are being encouraged to come up with designs for the next generation of SuperDragons.

The council wants to hear from professional artists, amateurs, art groups, designers and photographers with ideas for how the sculptures, which are in the process of being made, could look.

Designs will be selected by an artists’ review panel and the finished SuperDragons will be placed throughout the city, creating a brand new trail to follow around Newport.

Councillor Mike Hamilton, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for leisure, said: “Newport’s SuperDragons were a great success in 2010 and we hope this year they will be even bigger.”

Applications can be picked up at an event at 21/22 John Frost Square on January 10 from 6pm, or downloaded from newport.

Anyone wishing to attend the event should reply by today by calling 01633 656656.

The SuperDragons 2 project will be launched by deputy council leader Mike Hamilton and mayor Cllr Margaret Cornelious at the Riverfront on January 11 from 6pm to 8pm.

The event is open to anyone wishing to sponsor a dragon.

The project’s revival comes in time for this year’s Olympics.
