Last week, Dave Woolven correctly said: 'The item shown is a ship's figurehead from the days of sail'.
This figurehead belonged to the ship – the Ellen Sutton which was built in 1863 on Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia. The Ellen Sutton was stranded and condemned in 1894. The figurehead then became the property of John Sully – Newport Harbour Commissioner’s first diver before being donated to the Museum.
