LAST week we featured a picture of Victoria Avenue, Maindee, Newport.
This picture shows Maindee’s Victoria Avenue off Chepstow Road.
Originally the road was called Summerhill Avenue, the chapel on the left is Victoria Avenue Methodist Church, which was built in 1868.
Just below the church is Maindee Swimming Baths, opened in 1938.

VICTORIA Avenue and Albert Avenue, linked by Crown Street, were re-named in honour of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who married in 1840.
They used to be George Hill and Summer Hill.
The George Hotel is still at the junction of Victoria Avenue and Chepstow Road.
On the left was a splendid church, Victoria Avenue Methodist Church, which is now a housing development called Victoria Court.
