County lose unbeaten home record

WOKING put Newport County to the sword at Rodney Parade, scoring three times as the Exiles crashed to a 3-2 defeat.

Two goals by Kevin Betsy left County with it all to do before a superb Andy Sandell freekick gave Newport hope.

However, the hosts missed several decent chances and their old Conference South rivals took advantage when sub Brad Bubb made it 3-2.

A Mike Flynn header deflected in off Danny Crow with two minutes to go gave County a slim hope, but they couldn't score the decisive third.

The Exiles now have ten days without a game as they celebrate their centenary, still top of the Conference.

9 goals against in 3 games seems to point to a problem! Injuries will happen over the season and it's essential to have specialized defenders to step in. Competition for places also covers loss of form and complacency issues.

what a terrible display we witnessed yesterday. he {J.E.} admitted the defence needed strengthening from the start of the season, but did nothing about it. now we are paying the price . i agree with the previous comments, competition for places is a good thing. players seem to be complacent,some knowing they will be playing anyway . not a good situation to be in.....please get it sorted quickly, gates fell yesterday, what will they be like for the next game fans vote with their feet

I've been to a few games this season and somehow the team has formed this hit and hope route one football. When we do play one touch passing County are instoppable and its beautiful to watch.
OK! the defence is lackng strenth, but use a defensive midfielder or rear action and hold onto the ball. In previous reports JE stated the he and the team would evaluate what went wrong. After the performance against Woking I think half the team didn't listen or thought they knew better. Anyway re-address the problems JE were still top but for how long?

This defeat is the inevitable reaction to the Yate debacle. Teams simply cannot suffer setbacks of that magnitude and expect to be left with no psychological damage. That's why those claiming it was a good thing and would leave the County free to concentrate on the league simply don't understand the psychology of sport. It will take several good performances to undo the damage and at the moment it is difficult to see where those performances are coming from ! Yes the injured players will return and that will make a difference but we must start playing more creatively and scoring goals from open play . Have you noticed how many of our goals have come from corners, free kicks and long range? Even when we do set up chances we are converting very few of them ! However every successful campaign will have its share of setbacks and I'm sure J.E. is only too aware of what needs to be done to get the team back on track. Up the County !
