DANNY Rose knows how it feels to celebrate promotion with Newport County AFC and he’s delighted that his old club have now joined him in the Football League.

The midfield playmaker was a key part of Dean Holdsworth’s 2010 Confe-rence South title-winning team and played under current boss Justin Edinburgh before joining Fleetwood Town in January 2012.

The Cod Army netted promotion to League Two 12 months ago before Rose was reunited with Holdsworth and ex-County teammate Craig Reid in a loan spell at Aldershot Town.

After Holdsworth was sacked the Shots were relegated last month. Rose is expecting to be back at Fleetwood after the summer break and he’s looking forward to the prospect of playing against County.

“I’m delighted for the fans, the manager and the lads I played with at County,” said Rose following the Exiles’ Conference play-off final victory over Wrexham at Wembley on Sunday.

“I think it is only David Pipe, Ismail Yakubu and Andrew Hughes who were there when I was and it is great for them but I’m most pleased for the gaffer.

“I remember when he came in and he gave us a speech telling us what he wanted to do at the club and to have achieved promotion in such a short space of time is unbelievable really.”

As the current squad prepare for tonight’s open top bus celebration around the city, Rose has told them to enjoy the occasion.

“I remember the bus parade in 2010 and the players tonight are going to have a great experience because the County fans are really passionate and they deserve this success,” he said.

“It’s a great club and it will be an emotional day if I play against them next season.”

Rose has not ruled out a return to South Wales at some point and he admits his immediate future at Fleetwood is unclear.

“I’ve not spoken to Fleetwood but as far as I know I’ll be going back there for pre-season,” said the 25-year-old. “I’ve got another year on my contract but I’d never say never to playing for Newport again because the club is in my heart. I always follow the results and I spoke to Justin to congratulate him after Sunday.”
