CROSS Keys head coach Greg Woods has rebuffed offers from Premiership rivals and penned a new two-year contract at Pandy Park.

The 32-year-old guided the club to the first piece of silverware in their history with the 2012 Swalec Cup win and they have finished in the top half of the Premiership for the last two seasons.

Woods, a former hooker with Keys and Cardiff, will continue to be in charge up to 2015.

“Greg is key to us continuing to improve as a club and we had no hesitation in giving him a new two-year deal,” said chairman Chris Clarke.

“His vision of the game is perfect for us and he has been a huge figure in the development of Cross Keys.

“We want to remain a side that are involved in the top echelons of the Premiership and believe his is key to doing that.

“Greg has been at the helm for some of the best moments in this club's history and we look forward to many more of them in the coming seasons.”

Woods, who has been awarded a testimonial game against Crawshays at Pandy Park this summer, was more than happy to turn down approaches to remain at his hometown club.

“There were other clubs interested but I wasn’t tempted, I think we are building really well here,” he said.

“The key thing for me is stability and I have a great relationship with (director of rugby) Jonathan Westwood and look forward to that continuing.

“And we have built a good squad that has a good mix of youth and experience.

“We’ve made strides at Keys and now the challenge is to consistently be involved in big end-of-season games.”
