THE sale of Ryedale Indoor Bowls Club in Norton has been put on hold as a result of steps being taken to have it registered as a Community Asset.

Janet Waggott, chief executive of Ryedale District Council, which owns the building, said there had been between 20 and 25 expressions of interest from potential buyers.

“If it is registered there will be a six-week period in which the community can come forward with an expression of interest,” said Ms Waggott.

The council-owned club would not be sold before Christmas, she said.

Meanwhile, the club is forming a new community group to take forward the members’ aspirations to produce a business plan and save the centre.

Ms Waggott said the group would have a right to make a bid for the centre. Registering the centre could happen within a month.

“We have had interest in the site but our plans to have an open day for potential buyers has been put on hold,” she added.
