JAMES Hook says Wales will be looking to avenge last year’s defeat to Argentina and make up for their painful defeat to South Africa, writes Iwan Gabe Davies.

Wales entertain the struggling Pumas at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday after losing 24-15 to the Springboks in their opening autumn series clash.

Hook won his 71st cap in that encounter after coming on for centre Jonathan Davies who is out of the rest of the November Tests with a pectoral injury suffered in the 12th minute.

The 28-year-old Perpignan star emphasised how vital it is for Wales to bounce back against Argentina, Tonga and Australia.

"It's really important – we had targeted three wins, and there are now three games left. We want to get the win and kick on from it”, he said.

The Pumas have had a wretched time since they easily beat Six Nations champions Wales 26-12.

They were whitewashed in the recent Rugby Championship and brushed aside 31-12 by England on Saturday at Twickenham.

“We do owe Argentina one after last year, especially after a defeat like the one against South Africa – the boys won't need any motivation,” Hook said.

And the utility back admitted injuries to Davies, wing Liam Williams and tighthead props Adam Jones and Scott Andrews in the first 40 minutes were a bitter blow to Wales’ cause against South Africa.

"I don't think I have played in a game before when four players have gone off injured by half-time,” he said.

"It was strange, and real bad luck. It was one of those things you cannot do anything about. They were key players as well – Adam Jones, Jonathan Davies, boys like that. It was just unlucky.

"It was a case of coming together and trying our best. At the end of the first half we threw the kitchen sink at them, and in fairness to them, they defended well.

"It was nice to get on, but we are disappointed with the result, obviously.

"It all seemed to happen at once, myself and Ashley (Beck) going on. Jon Davies was playing so well up to that point, making two clean breaks, but we had to get back into the swing of things pretty quickly.”
