Newport County reject Portsmouth approach for boss Justin Edinburgh

PORTSMOUTH have made an official approach for Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh, but have been rebuffed.

Director of Football Tim Harris received the approach late on Monday afternoon from the League Two strugglers, who Edinburgh represented as a player.

However, after talking with Edinburgh, the board decided to reject the bid and hope the matter is now settled.

In a statement on their website they explained: "Tim Harris Director of Football , this morning (the Argus understands it was in the afternoon) received a phone call from a representative of Portsmouth FC seeking permission to speak to Justin Edinburgh about their vacant Managerial post.

"After discussion with Justin, The Board of Directors have informed Portsmouth they will not give permission to discuss their vacant Managerial position."

Edinburgh last week denied having interest in the post. He is the current fifth favourite with the bookies at 16-1 to join the South Coast club.

Look what happened to Dean
Portsmouth are not going anywhere with their problems whoever takes the job.
Well done Justin sure they would offer crazy money but long term no chance there for success for a very long time.

Bad tactics as I would have expected from Harris. Let the man talk to them, if he then decides no, he can be at peace with himself

Bad tactics? Edinburgh has said he doesn't want the job. Harris informed Edinburgh and the directorsof the approach before informing Portsmouth that permission is refused. It's my belief that if Edinburgh had shown interest this afternoon that they would have let him speak to them. In any case Portsmouth are starting to interview candidates tomorrow according to a news report. In that case they probably just wanted to ask him down for an interview. They haven't decided that they want him as their manager. If they do decide that after interviewing others they will be back. Tim Harris acted correctly.

Have you ever been a major employer?

The most conclusive solution was to let JE tell them himself. Believe me I've been there

This is the first of what will become a series of approaches until he leaves probably before the season is through

Handle every approach the same

Yes.

Portsmouth, correctly, approached County in the shape of Tim Harris. And got their answer from Tim Harris. If Edinburgh doesn't want to speak to them what would be the point of insisting that he does? I don't understand what you're on about.

I think that Portsmouth are unable to offer compensation to any club for their manager.
So they can only appoint a manager who is currently unemployed ?---or find a club who is keen to unload the manager.

2800 fans at the last home game when the county are competing at the top end of the table, county fans need to show some commitment to their manager or he will be gone, Pompey would have attracted 18000 in the same position, it must be a kick in the teeth for Mr Edinburgh to witness such poor support, come on county fans where are you/
