Danny Crow: I'll beat the boo-boys

South Wales Argus: Headline Headline

NEWPORT County striker Danny Crow has vowed to continue to work for the team, even if that means being booed by his own supporters.

The 27-year old striker is likely to start today as County head to Aggborough in the FA Cup to take on Conference National outfit Kidderminster Harriers.

It’s a huge clash with a massive reward, both sides just 90 minutes away from a potential showdown against a Premier League giant in round three.

Crow has become a regular starter for the Exiles since Chris Zebroski was injured and he scored his fifth goal of the campaign last Sunday in Newport’s 3-2 win over Chesterfield.

However, Crow hasn’t been pleasing everyone, having been the subject of boos and jeers from County fans at an away game with Oxford and also criticised by Exiles fans on Social Media sites.

Indeed, manager Justin Edinburgh this week felt compelled to hit back and speak up on Crow’s behalf and the striker admits it is the manager, not the boo boys, who remain uppermost in his thoughts.

“I saw the stuff on Twitter, I heard it on the terraces, the abuse for me and what can I say? Any footballer that tells you it doesn’t bother them is lying, it would affect any player when it is your own fans,” he told the Argus.

“But its part and parcel, I’m a very unselfish person who will do anything for the team and I am doing a job and various things on the pitch for the gaffer that the fans don’t know about.

“At the end of the day, as long as I am doing my job and pleasing the gaffer and my teammates, that’s all I can really worry about. I’ll do anything for the team.

“It is a bit hurtful. I’m being criticised for not winning headers against six foot plus defenders, but that isn’t really my job. I try and be a bit clever and help to pin the defenders in and make sure we will win the second ball.

“I understand frustration, but if you’re asking me if it bothers me, it does when it’s my own fans. It is frustrating, all the centre forwards work exceptionally hard, especially away from home.

“But maybe it’s working. Because all the abuse I was getting, and then I went and scored with a header last Sunday! That was a nice feeling.”

Crow believes the Exiles have every chance of booking a dream tie in the FA Cup third round.

“We owe Kidderminster, they beat us twice last season – mind you we got promoted so the joke is on them a little bit – and we could’ve won either game.

“It’s special for us and the fans to be in the third round and that must be our aim. We’d love a Premier League team.”

It's not the vast majority of fans Danny, just a few fools who have little knowledge of football tactics etc. Probably the same few who drove Chris Blight from the club last year.

Danny it's funny isn't it that whenever you play we don't lose. I have always believed in your ability and know that you make more chances than most for others. Just because you wear No9 doesn't mean you have to be the top scorer. Ignore the idiots, they don't represent this football club. Keep up the good work, 99.9% of us appreciate it.

Any supporter with half a brain can see what you are doing on the pitch Danny, so take no notice of the brainless few.

Danny, Don't give in to the loudmouthed brainless few with loud voices, anyone with one eye closed can see that you use your brains on the pitch.
Keep going and ignore the bullies. Good luck
