Newport County to install dome-style pitch covers

NEWPORT County are to install dome-style pitch covers tomorrow morning.

The move is County's latest attempt to solve the problems with the Rodney Parade pitch that have led to five home matches being postponed.

The club says the covers and a favourable weather forecast for tomorrow mean they have 'high hopes' that Tuesday night's game against AFC Wimbledon will go ahead.

County will release more details tomorrow.

You would have thought that after realising that the work done on the pitch hasn't worked as well as hoped and the weather we have had they would have done this sooner, it's been constantly wet now for atleast 2 months.

I don't understand why any team doesn't have effecient covers permanently.

To be fair the club has limited financial resource and this does not come cheap.
Well done County for trying.
If the game is on I will be across the bridge like a shot and in the Bisley tomorrow night.

Up the County!!!

Just come back from RP getting my tickets for tomorrow night. The ground staff are working really hard on the pitch but the dome cover has yet to arrive.
Some of you may remember that I mentioned about the dome cover on here over 6weeks ago, a cover that was specially designed for sports stadiums but people did not believe they existed, but it is nice to see they do and I am hoping that they get it on as soon as it comes and at long last we can get a game ON.
I personally think that the only way we can beat this weather problem in the future is to get a Desso pitch installed, I know that the cost is in the region of £400'000 but it is the only way forward, if you looked at the Liberty Stadium on the weekend it was great, and they play rugby and football on there. I know it is a lot of money but we have to get this problem sorted sooner than later.

You think this is bad? Heaven's sake !
Well hear me coz this is my take,
Very soon the transporter,
Will be under the water,
And Newport will just be a lake !!

Well perhaps a tiny exaggeration but if things go on like this County will need more than a dome cover on the pitch to keep out the elements !!

Couldn't agree more with 'sooty001. I watched the Swansea/Cardiff game on TV. It seemed to pour with rain the whole match and the pitch looked perfect.

I hope the powers that be at RP will look seriously at this proposal, it has got to be good for the rugby as well as the County.

horse - bolted anyone! im no expert, but surely some tarpaulin fashioned in some way would have served temporarily to divert rain off the pitch. Good luck county. p.s. County officials: there is plenty more rain comming. (just in case you dont watch old Derek the weather man)
