Chesterfield 1 Newport 1

A STUNNING strike from Max Porter with eight minutes remaining earned Newport a shock point at promotion chasers Chesterfield.

The Exiles dominated the first half without reward and appeared to be heading for defeat after Jimmy Ryan's fine chip.

But Porter's splendid leveler earned Newport a share of the spoils and surely banishes any lingering fears of a relegation battle.

Reaction from manager Justin Edinburgh is below.

“It was a spirited display, we showed good character after they scored what looked like a fortunate first goal which I am not sure he meant,” Edinburgh said.

“But once we got through that spell, I felt we could get something out of the game.

“We were comfortable at times, started the game well and young Shaun Jeffers came into the side and caused them problems.

“We had opportunities and looked imposing, we’d been comfortable at the back and at half time I was very pleased with the efforts.

“But they came back at us and to concede as quickly as we did in the second half really put us on the back foot.

“Like I say, Chesterfield will kick themselves they didn’t take their chances when they were 1-0 up.

“The third time they went through, one of my coaches, Wayne Hatswell turned to me and said ‘that might cost them’ and it turned out exactly like that.

“I am thrilled for Max Porter scoring, he has worked tremendously hard despite a lot of setbacks throughout this and last season and he’s come up with a really crucial goal for us.

“It’s been a tough time for Max, a real complex injury and he’s been pushed from pillar to post. But he’s a good pro and it’s a good little present for him.

“We’ve come to a title chasing side and got a point, we’ve earned four points against Chesterfield this season and it shows what we are capable of.

“They’ve had a consistent second half to the season and we haven’t, but if we play like we did against Chesterfield I think we are looking at a good decent top half finish.

“Our last seven or eight performances have been better albeit without the results, but we’ve given ourselves a platform to build on.”

Well done County you showed what you can do when you play for each other.
I agree about Jeffers. How on earth can he impress by being taken off. I thi he has eared his place. I felt that County started to lose interest in the 2nd half as they have done before but it shows what ca happen when you don't give in. Well done lads so proud of you. Play like that for the rest of the season and we will be well up there, and ready for next season.

County were poor today, not enough rolling around on the floor from the players or enough coin throwing from the fans. Let's hope normal service is restored on Tuesday when the police have to be out in force to look after all the pillars of society, who do so much for the community, like; cause trouble, chant and swear, and bring the town to a stand still, they are of course.. The good old county supporters.

Up the county! Eh?

Only 2 go down so County are 7 points clear of Northampton, with Torquay below them making up the bottom two. Still not absolutely safe but games are running out for the clubs trying to climb out of trouble.Nearly all clubs have only 5 matches left. County have 6 left though and play this game in hand on Tuesday home to Plymouth. That is the only League 2 fixture on that day. A County win would put them 10 points clear of the relegation zone on equal matches played. It would also place them 12th in the table, exactly half way up. So here's hoping.

I know enough about football to make these comments and they are justified.
You are right, I loath and detest football fans due to my experience of dealng with them.

However, I read the reports to see how they are doing in the hope they get relegated to the sports direct national 25th division conference league, so I don't have to hear of them, read about them, or see Newport come to a stand still because of them.

Thanks

I have started watching the county this season and have enjoyed it and the Pompey game aside as I was not there due to a wedding I must say there has been no coin throwing or violence. Yes there is a bit of bad language and banter but to try and make claims like you have because of some bad experience you have had in the past is ridiculous really. Newport often gets a bad name rightly or wrongly but false comments do not help.

Sorry to say it but your comments are a complete misfit and doesn't make justice neither to County as a Club nor to its loyal supporters.

When you say you wish to see County relegated to the 25th division of Conference, you have said it all and the number of justified 'down votes' you inherited shows exactly how poor, unreasonable and out-of-place your comments are.

"Down the County". There you have said it - you have spoken your mind.

You have managed to take the palm of honour, though, on Argus Sports - congratulations for having had, to date, the record number of 'down votes'. This is not insolence but it shows that you are completely in the wrong. Calling people nasty for criticising you.... people in glass houses should never throw stones.

Keep skiing on the sunny med. I am too on the med.... and although neither Welsh nor British, I am proud and happy to be a County fan.

Eh?
You obviously know absolutely nothing about football - that much is obvious. The coin-throwing incident to which you refer happened seasons ago and I don't remember one before it or after it.
You're also obviously someone who just hates football so why read and comment on the match report?
I know enough about football to make these comments and they are justified.
You are right, I loath and detest football fans due to my experience of dealng with them.

However, I read the reports to see how they are doing in the hope they get relegated to the sports direct national 25th division conference league, so I don't have to hear of them, read about them, or see Newport come to a stand still because of them.

Thanks
your just not worth commenting on
