County 2 Rochdale 1

First published in Sport South Wales Argus: Photograph of the Author by

NEWPORT County ruined Rochdale's promotion party and finished their campaign on a high, despite going down to ten men.

Rochdale, chasing the League Two title took a first half lead through George Donnelly, but Aaron O'Connor's first of the season after a Mike Flynn volley made it all-square just before the break.

The visitors thought they'd seized the initiative in the final ten minutes after Ryan Jackson was sent off for a professional foul, but Dale's penalty was saved by Ian McLoughlin as Matt Lund was denied.

And with only moments remaining, Feely's looping header from Robbie Willmott's freekick gave Newport all three points.

Nice to see a good end to the season,it just shows we can mix it with the best in this league, I still think we need a midfield general to hold the ball up while other players get into positions, but hopefully that will be sorted by the start of the next season. On the whole I think we have had a good season and would have settled for where we finished at the beginning of the season.Well done to all the players, staff and the Amber Army for providing me with a roller coaster ride this season. Good Luck for the next.

Just like the feeling after the Accrington Stanley game. Well done County! Never say die, that's the spirit.

Never lower than 16th all season.

Enjoy your holidays and let's look forward to a new pitch and reformed team.

Roll on the Carl Zeiss Jena game on July 26th!

The Rochdale fans on their forum are very complimentary about Newport , Newport County and the policing and stewarding. But some expressed concern about the demountable stand which they were allocated. They thought it was overcrowded and in danger of collapsing. County should take note of these concerns and check the number of people that should be allowed in there.

Congrats to Newport County for a fine win against one of the best teams in League 2.

What a better 'au revoir' to the fans on the last match of the season.

Aaron O'Connor came back with a bang, tasting at least the pleasure of a goal in League 2 after an long-sustained injury throughout the entire season.

Feely's winner in the dying minutes of the match gave County maximum points and sent the Amber Army back home with high hopes for a better new season.

JE will have to use all his expertise and contacts to procure new players to strengthen the team where needs be.

I personally feel sure he will be succeed in his attempt but, as usual, it would be next season's final league standings that would determine whether the gaffer's work would be met or not.

Will the pitch be fixed by July? I hope so or it will be very embarrassing for County officials. Well done County, Lets carry that game into next season.
