Welsh Autoparts Gwent County League FIVE fixtures were completed this week - a big improvement on the previous few weeks.

In the First Division, second placed Spencer Youth took maximum points, defeating Undy 3-0 at the Causeway with goals by Daniel Bailey, Jamie Shelley and substitute David Lewis.

Trinant hosted neighbours Treowen Stars, sharing the points in a 1-1 draw, Mike Whitlock scoring their goal.

In Division Two, Trethomas Bluebirds moved into second place after a four-goal victory over FC Dugout at Llanfabon Drive, courtesy of goals from Ryan Gulliford, his first of the season, and Andrew Gomer and two own goals.

Rogerstone returned from Eugene Cross Park with a 2-1 victory over RTB Ebbw Vale, Damian Richards and Richard Clayton their marksmen, Carl Dix scoring for RTB.

In the only Third Division game, AC Pontymister had a single-goal victory over Crusaders, Scott Jefferies scoring the all-important goal.

Knauf Insulation Gwent Central League

Gilwern B maintained their winning ways with a 3-1 home win over New Inn to book their semi-final place in the Knauf Insulation Gwent Central League A Jones and Co (Usk) Ltd. Benevolent Cup.

Shaun Lane put Gilwern ahead after only two minutes and eight minutes later Steve Woods added a second, Allan Teague stretching their lead and putting Gilwern into a strong position after twenty minutes. Darren Altoft pulled a goal back for New Inn five minutes from the end.

Clydach B won the derby clash at Crickhowell 4-0, scoring twice in each half through Jordan Jones (2), Nicky Brown and Matthew Edwards.

Pilcs were involved in a high-scoring tie with visitors Usk Town B, edging to a 5-4 victory after leading 2-1 at the break. James Ronan celebrated his return to action after injury with four goals for Pilcs whose other marksman was Mike Stewart. Scorers for Usk were Pat Wong (2), Steve Wade and Gavin Jones.

Race gave up home advantage against Division One leaders Govilon who won 4-0, all the goals scored in the first-half at Bailey Park, Abergavenny. Govilon's scorers were Dean Morgan, Jason Williams, Matthew Williams and James Powell.

Mardy gained their third win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Tranch, leading 3-0 at the break. Mardy's marksmen were Matthew Lynch (2), James Wham and Aaron Davies. Tranch replied through Ricky Ball and Darren Parry.

Pontypool Town took maximum points from their visit to the island, pipping Usk Town 3-2, the sides level at 2-2 after 45 minutes. Mike Jones scored both Usk goals with Pontypool replying through Richard Wakeling (2) and Scott Taylor.

Three games fell by the wayside in the top division and a couple in Division Two and in the one game played Govilon B outshone their first team with a 6-1 success at bottom club Llanarth B. Govilon's goals came from Stuart Norman (2), Nigel Smith (2), Kieran Shelvin and Lee Waite. Lee Cuff scored for Llanarth.

East Gwent League

ROCKFIELD Rovers B fell at the first hurdle of the Harry Fishwick Cup, a Third Division competition.

Zeb Learney netted Rockfield's only goal in the 3-1 home quarter-final defeat by Chepstow Athletic B.

Bulwark and Mathern Wanderers B clashed for the second week running in Chepstow, Bulwark having won the previous week's league encounter 3-2.

This time Mathern showed more spirit and drive and won an entertaining cup game 5-4 after extra time.

Bulwark raced into a 3-0 lead early on but back came Mathern to level the match 3-3 at full time.

Mathern netted two more goals in extra time with Bulwark scoring once. Chris Meddins (2), Daniel Drake and a bizarre own goal from veteran Jimmy Edwards rounded off the Bulwark scorers. Richie Meakins and Barrie Tompson were among the Mathern scorers.

Undy B against Devauden and Rogiet against Caldicot Castle B were the victims of waterlogged pitches Caldicot Town's recent good form continued in Division One as they swept aside Rockfield Rovers A 4-0 in Monmouth. James McKeowen (2), Gareth Heywood and an Adrian Porter penalty ensured Caldicot moved on to 18 points, the same as Rockfield.

Undy Athletic A's quest for a top two place continued as they crushed Chepstow Town 6-2. Man of the match, Anthony Evans, netted a hat-trick for the home side along with goals from Simon Yates, Andrew Tucker and Richard Hudson.

The win leaves Undy just four points behind joint leaders Tintern and Monmouth Town, whose games were postponed.

In the only Second Division game played because of the state of the pitches, Monmouth Town B beat a spirited Thornwell Red and White 2-1. Elliot Ford scored a brace for the home side.

Monmouthshire Building Society Newport and District League

THE weather again disrupted the league programme, leaving just three games played from 34 fixtures, all in the Caerphilly council area.

In the last four weeks130 games were planned and only seven played. This leaves massive fixture congestion, with the expected colder weather likely to result in more postponements.

No games were playable in the Premier X, First and Third divisions.

In the one game played in the Premier Y, West Pontnewydd travelled to Trethomas Bluebirds and gained a well deserved point.

The Division Two game of the day was the tussle between Cwmcarn Athletic and Lliswerry. After losing the lead to an early goal, Lliswerry fought back and put Cwmcarn under heavy pressure. Their efforts were rewarded with two goals before the interval, an own goal and a superb lobbed volley from outside the penalty area by Keith Miller which dipped over the 'keepers head.

After the break and some hard talking by the Cwmcarn manager, the Athletic got their act together. Four goals without reply enabled Cwmcarn to run out 5-2 winners. Their scorers were Steven Pontin (3), Michael Stevens and Dale Parry.

The Tradesmans Arms welcomed Cosmos to their Machen ground, but gave them very little to cheer about, the home side continuing their strong form with an emphatic 11-0 win. Jim Roden set the ball rolling with a clever lob from 25 yards, two further goals added before the interval. A second half brace from Adam Norman, completing his hat-trick, finishing any hope of a Cosmos revival. Lewis Boyd contributed to the victory with four assists and a goal. Luke Lear was man of the match.

Woodlands move to the top of the Premier Division on goal difference following a 13 - 0 victory over bottom club Tafarn y Werin.

P Dunkerton scored a double hat-trick to demolish the opponents, with the other goals being scored by S Griffiths (2), D O'Leary (2), D Hillman and S Hill and an own goal comleting the scoring.

Brynmawr Athletic continued their quest to reach the top spot with a 5 - 1 home victory over Abercarn United with goals by M Congreve (2), K Lewis (2) and A Williams. Although seven points off top place, the Athletic have at least three games in hand over the teams above them.

Drysiog Inn hosted Abertillery Bluebirds A and were on the wrong end of a 7 - 2 scoreline with the Bluebirds goals coming from O Goodenough (2), C Simmonds (2), B Williams and G Jones with an own goal finishing the scoring. In reply, C Chappell and Paul Markey scored for Drysiog.

In the only other match played in the Premier Division, Pantside hosted Cefn Fforest A and after a thrilling match, which was a credit to both teams, Pantside ran out 6 - 3 winners. Scorers for Pantside were M Greaves (3), S Smith (2) and J McAbber with Jason Hawker, Brad Alderman and Darren Healy replying for Cefn Fforest.

In the First Division no positions altered following the weekend programme.

Abertillery Excelsior hosted Abertillery Bluebirds B and were beaten 4 - 1 with goals by A Gravenor (2) and M Harris (2) for the Bluebirds, with the consolation goal scored by R Phelps.

Cefn Fforest B hosted Rhymney B and won 5 - 2 with goals by Craig Chapman (3), Rhys Noble-Partridge and an own goal, with G Carter and M Long replying for Rhymney B.

Bluebirds C hosted Tredegar Athletic and were defeated 4 - 1 with goals by T Davies (2), I Pettit and G Thomas for Tredegar Athletic with N Walker scoring for Bluebirds. Phoenix United played Llanhilleth Athletic and won 4 - 1 with goals by Mark Powell (3) and Richard Brannan.

Cwm Sports defeated FC Dug Out 7 - 0 with goal scorers A Ford (2), S Williams (2), R Chaplin, M Hancock and G Stevens keeping them in second spot.
