WE have nothing to fear against Celtic champions Ulster, says Aled Thomas as he lines up at full back for Newport Gwent Dragons against returning Irish ace David Humphreys in tomorrow night's Magners League clash at Ravenhill.

Humphreys has fully recovered from the elbow injury which had put him out for the last two months and forced him to miss the Heineken Cup tie against Llanelli Scarlets, when Ulster were for once turned over on their own ground.

Thomas switches from his preferred outside half position where he starred in the Dragons' record victory over Borders in their last match.

But now he reverts to 15, where he played for much of last season in the absence of the desperately unlucky Kevin Morgan, then out with a dislocated foot and now sidelined with a broken jaw.

"Ulster will hold no fears for us," said Thomas. "We've just got to keep going with the brand of rugby we've been playing.

"I was just happy contributing to the good team performance against Borders, we played some nice rugby, created opportunities and took them. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"I would like the opportunity to play more at outside half, but I just enjoy playing whether it's in either position.

"I feel I've developed from the player I was when I came here. The opportunities I had at full back last year gave me loads of confidence."

Thomas also praises the part played in his development by Cross Keys where he's played a fair bit in the Welsh Premier Division this season.

"They gave me the opportunity and it's been good for me," he said. "It gave me plenty of confidence, and when the opportunity comes you've got to take it, then hopefully keep going.

"I played in both positions for Cross Keys, but there's plenty of competition at outside half in the Dragons squad."

Apart from the return of Humphreys, Ulster bring back seven players who have been involved with the Ireland squad in the first two games of the Six Nations, including scrum half Isaac Boss who played for the entire match against France last Sunday.

The returning Irish seven are Boss, Paddy Wallace, Andrew Trimble, Tommy Bowe, Neil Best, Simon Best and Bryan Young.

Sam Harding, the former New Zealand flanker who has joined from Northampton, is also in line for his debut. He is the great nephew of former Wales great Judge Rowe Harding.

But Ulster will be without lock Matt McCullough and full back/wing Mark Bartholomeusz who are both injured.
