FORMER Newport County AFC star Regan Poole played the full 90 minutes as Manchester United under-21s beat their Manchester City counterparts live on TV last night.

United moved to the top of the Under-21 Premier League table with the 1-0 derby victory over City.

A Joe Rothwell goal in the 16th minute gave the Reds victory to move them above Sunderland and ten points clear of their neighbours.

Poole played as a holding midfielder in the match, which was shown live on BT Sport.

And the 17-year-old produced a late goal-saving block to ensure his side held on for victory in Leigh.

Poole has been named in the Red Devils’ Europa League squad and could be in line for his first team debut when Louis Van Gaal’s men take on FC Midtjylland next week.

The round of 32 first leg match in Denmark will also be shown live on BT Sport (kick-off 6pm).

The return leg at Old Trafford takes place on Thursday, February 25 (kick-off 8.05pm).

The next under-21 fixtures that Poole could play a part in see the United youngsters take on Reading at home on Monday before the return fixture against Manchester City on February 20.
