NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley admitted that Wycombe Wanderers deserved their win after the hosts came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Adams Park.

South Wales Argus:

Mark Randall’s opener against the run of play on the hour gave County hope but the Chairboys levelled through Sam Wood on 70 minutes and clinched all three points thanks to Paris Cowan-Hall’s winner 10 minutes from time (below).

It was a seventh straight defeat in League Two for Westley’s men, who have now gone nine games without a win in all competitions and remain bottom of the table.

The Exiles are five points from safety with a game in hand at the half-way point in the season.

South Wales Argus:

“I think the result was fair,” said Westley. “It was a fair reflection of the game.

“Over 90 minutes they had nearly 60 per cent of the ball and 17 shots to our one.

“You’d have to say that one team went forward with a lot more verve and more penetration than the other.

“But I’m delighted with the reaction of my players.

“We’re in a very difficult moment. I can’t ever remember having a run of results like this as a manager and I’m sure most of the players can’t remember a run of results like it.

“We’ve played a lot of top-end sides and we’ve come unstuck, badly once or twice but in the main we’ve got edged out.

“We’ve talked probably too much about the reasons for that.

“We’ve got some work to do in January – we all know that – and I think with that work we can put ourselves in a better position to win games and get ourselves out of where we are right now.”

County handed a debut to new striker Aaron Williams but fellow new arrival Jaanai Gordon was not ready to feature today.

Westley lost midfielders Josh Sheehan and Sean Rigg to injury in the second half and Ben Tozer and Scot Bennett also missed the match.

All are doubts for the trip to Stevenage on Saturday but the manager hopes to add more new signings before that match.
