DANNY Cowley said he would “have a can of coke” with coins that the Lincoln City chief claims were thrown at his team’s dugout in the second half of today’s Rodney Parade stalemate.

The alleged incident came after referee Brett Huxtable had incensed the home crowd by showing County defender Mark O’Brien a straight red card in the 53rd minute.

Part of the Hazell Terrace behind the dugouts was closed to supporters for this afternoon’s match because of objects thrown from the crowd during the draw with Carlisle United on December 9.

The section will also be off limits for the New Year’s Day meeting with Exeter City.

"They really get behind their team, we were getting pelted verbally and physically," said Cowley.

"They were throwing coins at us, I've got about £1.20 in my pocket now so I’ll go and have a can of coke with that.

"They were a partisan crowd fighting hard for their team and I respect that, but not the other bits.

"I don't want to get them in trouble, I don't want it to be about that.

"We don't want to see that in football, of course we don't, but they were a partisan crowd, fighting hard for their team, their team had gone down to 10 and they were getting behind them.

"I respect that, the other bits are a bit unnecessary."

Referee Huxtable did stop the League Two clash not long after sending off O’Brien.

He demanded to speak to a steward in the Hazell Stand when the ball, thrown by a member of the crowd, struck his assistant.

It’s not clear at the moment if he was also aware of the alleged coin throwing.

There has been no comment from Newport County AFC regarding Cowley’s allegations.
