NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn admits he would like to add one more loan signing but he’s unsure if he will have the funds.

The deadline for loan moves is August 31 and the Exiles boss is still hoping to strengthen.

But any move may depend on County beating Oxford United in next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie and securing a lucrative draw in the third round.

Asked about loan signings, Flynn said: “I want to but I’m not sure if there’s any money in the coffers.

“One of the biggest problems is if we get a loan in they will have no accommodation. That is something I need to speak to the board about.

“It only becomes frustrating if you miss out on somebody you want because of something like that.

“I won’t be using up the last loan space just for the sake of it. I would like to think they would push it to that if I went to them and said I need this or I want him.

“But it is what it is we will just get on with things and try to do the best we can.

“A win on Tuesday might help but it depends on who we draw because I don’t think there’s any prize money in the Carabao Cup until the semi-finals.”

Captain Andrew Crofts has an outside chance of returning from a toe infection to face Grimsby Town at Rodney Parade on Saturday but Robbie Willmott is still sidelined with a hamstring problem.

“Crofty’s not far away,” said the manager. “Robbie will be a little bit longer. I don’t really want to put a time on it because every time I think he’s coming back soon he has a little setback.

“They’re getting the right rehab and advice and as soon as they can be available they will be.

“Crofty’s a 34-year-old with a 16-year-old’s body and head. He loves playing football and being part of things and he hates missing out.

“He might make Saturday but I won’t be taking any risks.”

The form of loan star Tyreeq Bakinson means there is no need to rush Crofts back.

“Tyreeq has been outstanding in the last couple of games and he seems like he’s improving game after game, which is always a good sign,” added Flynn.

“We’ve got Charlie Cooper as well who can step in as well so it’s not one that I need to rush and I’ll only do it if I think it’s right for the player and the team.”

Matty Dolan, who was forced off before the end of Tuesday’s home win over Notts County, and David Pipe are fit to play.

“Matty just overstretched a little bit [on Tuesday] but he should be fine,” explained Flynn.

“Pipey is alright now. I could have maybe risked him on Tuesday but I thought Tyler [Forbes] did really well at Cambridge and I’ve got to show some faith in him as well.

“He’s got a bounce in his step after Tuesday because we won the game and he played 90 minutes and did very well.”
