NEWPORT County boss Peter Beadle is urging supporters not to worry about another fixture pile-up because he isn't.

County will hopefully be in action tomorrow when they are due to entertain Cambridge City (kick-off 7.45pm).

Saturday's postponed game with Havant and Waterlooville means the Exiles have slipped to ninth in the Blue Square South and now have as many as FIVE games in hand on those above them.

Fans are naturally concerned about a fixture backlog at the end of the campaign similar to last season when County's promotion push ran out of steam.

But the boss remains undaunted by such a prospect and insists his squad will cope even if it does happen.

He explained: "I am not in the slightest bit worried about having the games in hand, nor are my players and I hope supporters aren't either.

"Would I rather have the points on the board? Of course!

"But at this stage we have no need to panic, we are out of the FA Cup, FA Trophy and the other one (Setanta Shield) and have a maximum of two cup games to fit in this season (FAW Premier Cup).

"We have plenty of time left and as long as we are only playing one midweek game a week we will be fine.

"I believe we have a much better squad this time around and are just generally better equipped to cope with a demanding run-in.

"The squad are absolutely buzzing at the moment and I feel we can really come into form now."

Beadle is cautiously optimistic that Wednesday's game will go ahead after good reports from groundsman Tony Gilbert.

However, he is only too aware that Cambridge City will provide a tough test, particularly as they have become something of a bogey side for the Exiles.

It was Cambridge who spoiled the promotion party last season, winning against an exhausted County side on the final game of the season when three points would have seen Newport make the playoffs.

"Cambridge are our new Weston, we never seem to beat them and it'll be very tough this time," he said. "I think they're a really good side, much better than the league table suggests.

"But we're in good form, we've survived our wobbles in form without dropping too many points or losing too many players and we feel ready to push on from here.

"We've plenty to play for and we are of course hoping to win tomorrow and to win at Sutton (bottom of the league) on Saturday."

A suspension rules out striker Julian Alsop tomorrow but Beadle has no new injury worries.

Sam O'Sullivan will not feature as he has started a one-month loan at Southern League outfit Yate to recover his match fitness.
