PAUL Turner has revealed how he hopes to rejuvenate the Newport Gwent Dragons team after signing a two-year extension to his contract, as revealed in Monday's Argus.

Turner is in his third season with the Dragons and will now be with the region until May 2010 at least after agreeing a new deal.

"I'm obviously pleased to be staying, it's the place where I grew up," said Turner. "I've done what I can in my first three years. Now we want to try to build a side so the region is strong going into the new stadium.

"I'm looking out there to see if I can bring in some quality players and we are doing our bit with developing young players which remains the focus of our attention. But we have got to be shrewd in the market if we are to bring in some quality."

Turner was referring to the financial constraints which will still exist, and a bit like a lower division football manager he is going to have to do some wheeling and dealing in the transfer market to bring in some decent newcomers while still developing youngsters.

He leaves for New Zealand and America on Monday and, while Down Under, may take the first tentative steps towards bringing in a couple of good new players.

Dragons chief executive Gethin Jenkins expressed his delight at the new deal.

"This will allow the Dragons to build on the strong foundations laid by the coaches, players, staff and directors here at the Dragons in recent years," he said.

"We have discussed at length what we are trying to achieve and Paul understands the financial position we have to work within. This is especially in light of the exciting regeneration project the ground will undertake in the next two years.

"We will now work with Paul to retain and recruit new players as we build on these plans and head towards the new stadium.

"I thank Paul and his team for their work so far in developing the squad and providing the opportunities for Welsh talent to emerge. I trust that this development will continue as we plan and build towards the new stadium."
