CAPTAIN Steve Jenkins has urged the County faithful to pack Spytty Park and create a cup final atmosphere for this afternoon's huge match with Fisher Athletic.

It's do-or-die time for the Exiles who need a win to guarantee a place in the Blue Square Play-offs and Jenkins claims the fans can make all the difference.

"It is a cup final really, a play-off before the play-offs," said the veteran right-back.

"Our whole season boils down to this one game and we'll need a massive crowd right behind us from the off.

"We want to make it as intimidating as possible for Fisher and all the lads know how important our fans can be."

Jenkins and his fellow defenders came in for some stinging criticism after Monday night's devastating 4-1 home defeat to Thurrock and he is still at a loss as to how the whole team performed so dismally.

"You get one or two games like that every season, it was the timing that was the worst thing" he said. "We were very poor and we deserved the criticism but hopefully we can put it behind us and with a win today it will all be forgotten."

The former Wales international dismissed talk of the players not caring about the team's fate.

"People think that we don't care but I can tell you that we do," he insisted.

"When I dropped down the divisions I didn't expect it to matter as much to me but it does. Losing hurts, no matter what level of football you're playing at. It's professional pride and anyone who had been in our dressing room on Monday would have seen how much the boys were hurting.

"We know that the people of Newport want success for this club and so do the players and hopefully we can take the first step towards getting back in the league by clinching a play-off place today.

"It's an edgy time of year and Fisher will be nervous too but we have nothing to fear, it's not as if they are Barcelona.

"If we play to our potential we'll get the job done."
